The prevailing wind will add to the difficulty of the inviting four par 3 holes, each of which you wish you can have played again. The par 3 - 17th is gentle in comparison to some of the other courses in the locality. Once you have achieved your par here, you can stand back and admire the distant views of Blackpool Pleasure Beach or on a good day, the Isle of Man, whilst your fellow players pay from the deep green side bunkers or putt out on this undulating green.
The par 4 holes are challenging with strategically placed bunkers to trap the unwary. Some of the greens like the undulating 15th will ensure you retain some memories of the course.
The four par 5 holes each are renown for there own features. The 3rd early in the round but with hazards left and right make a good driving hole and with its green cut into a ledge on the distant slope make it the stroke index 2 hole. The 8th hole once known as one of the longest holes in Wales has now had its green redesigned to ensure you accurately place your approach shot. The 11th green is well protected by fairway bunkers and has an undulating green.
The 18th is the signature hole and one cannot advise what is the wisest approach but beware of having to play safely in order to protect a medal card. The tee is some way further up the hill behind the 17th green and the view from there is both inspiring and perplexing. The fairway races down the hillside in leaps and bounds but there is really only a very narrow gap between a group of big trees on the left and dense woodland on the right. You have to steer perilously close to those right hand trees as the fairway leans steeply to the left, but let us hope you have conjured up the drive of your dreams then you will probably be faced with a delicate decision from a hanging lie to go for the green. But for those with less ability, playing short of the ditch and chipping to the pin may prove to be the better option. The new three level green has been formed to benefit those with this in mind. The 18th hole is likely to remain in the visitor's mind for a very long time.
Once the have completed your round you will be able to reflect on your putting ability and long for another round at this testing course whilst taking refreshments out on the balcony or in the magnificent clubhouse and absorb the friendly atmosphere at this thriving member's club.
