The Officers 2012
Message from your President
Hello members,
Best wishes to you all for the New Year and lets all make sure its an enjoyable one here at Abergele
Golf Club.
The New Years Eve party was absolutely first class and if we can maintain that wonderful atmosphere
we are in for a great time. My congratulations to the Social Committee for all their hard work but
more importantly a big thank you to you the members for supporting the event.
The next social event is the Valentines Dinner/Dance on Saturday 11th February where our new
caterer Alan McMullin and his team will be preparing and serving their menu for the evening.
This is currently on display at the clubhouse and we hope it will provide a good introduction to Alan,
but more importantly we hope it surpasses members expectations.
I look forward to seeing you all.
Regards
Terry Hughes
Message from your Lady President
May I take this opportunity to wish all the members of
Abergele Golf Club,
A very Happy and Prosperous New Year.
My year of office started with the busy seasonal activities ; Children's Party;
Ladies Dinner;
Christmas Draw Night, and an enjoyable evening with the Juniors at their
Christmas Quiz.
I am sure that everyone who attended all the functions had a super time, as indeed was the case at
our New Years Eve Dinner and Dance.
The start of the Golf Season will soon be here, and I wish all members an enjoyable and
successful time with ... hopefully ... lots of good weather.

Message from your Captain
I would first like to say how proud I feel to have become Captain of Abergele Golf Club alongside
Janet and Junior Captain Emma. The good wishes and congratulations I have received
from amongst the members and my family have been amazing. I look forward to representing
the club and the members in the best possible way that I can.
The Captain's Drive In was a memorable event for all three of us made even more so by the
amount of members and family friends who attended to wish us all well. To those who took
photos and video and have been kind enough to pass them on a big thank you also.
We seem to have had a tremendous start to our year with all the activities which have taken
place since we took office at the beginning of December, all of which have been very well attended
and my thanks go to all the willing volunteers who do so much behind the scenes to
make these events seemingly run so smoothly and so successfully.
As you will have seen, work continues around the course to maintain the high standard to
which we have become accustomed, and our thanks must go to Darren and his team for their
continued hard work.
My Charity for this year is ChildLine; a charity which I have supported for over 20 years.
ChildLine is a confidential helpline for children and young people. Trained volunteers are on
hand to provide advice and support by phone and online, 24 hours a day.
Although this service is free to the callers it costs ChildLine £4.00 to answer each of these calls.
I hope you will consider this a worthy charity to support.
May I wish you and your families wherever they may be a very happy and safe 2012.

Message from your Lady Captain
Thank you all for your kind wishes of congratulations and success, which have been quiteoverwhelming. I will do my best to make this year happy for you all. We have already had the best New Year's Eve event for many a year, which was due I think to the party atmosphere generated
by the party-goers who used the table whistles, streamers etc and fancy hats, and I hope you all enjoyed the evening.
The entertainment was excellent, with vocalist, Jim Roberts and Mike Sealy
the comedian. Let's try and enjoy ourselves in spite of the current, dreary financial forecasts! The Children's Christmas Party on 3rd December 2011 was a success, with Mr Gary Sausage keeping the children interested and entertained in his usual manner. He has accepted an invitation to return
once again this year; I think the children would miss him if he didn't. They watched Santa as he made his way across the first fairway on his way to the clubhouse, and he gave the security guard a nasty shock as he was doing his rounds in the Castle grounds. Santa had gifts for 52 boys and girls and they went home very pleased with what they received. Thanks to all who helped to make that
afternoon such fun.
The Captains' Drive In held the following day was a memorable event and we all managed to hit the ball onto the fairway for the juniors to collect. It was lovely to see so many staying for lunch in the
clubhouse afterwards. Our ladies' Christmas Party on the 7th December was most enjoyable and my thanks go to Julie Wade and her cast for the excellent pantomime entertainment. Thank you ladies, too, for the gift of my table arrangement which stayed fresh up until Christmas Day.
Other events in the run-up to Christmas were Bingo on the 8th, with Nerys Watkins winning £55 jackpot, our Punch and Mince Pie morning on the 13th; Christmas Whist which was well supported, on the 15th; and Draw Night on the 16th was well attended with many prizes being won. The Junior Quiz, held on the 18th, is always a popular event, with 130 juniors and parents in attendance this
year. Thanks must go to Iain Runcie, Quizmaster and of course to Karen and to Pat Runcie for setting the questions. Lastly, the Christmas Quiz on 20th December with Bryn Evans our Quizmaster was again very well supported, and thanks to all members who donated various tins of food and
other things to make up Christmas hampers. These were presented by Mr Captain, Mike Cleary to a representative of NACRO for distribution in the Rhyl area, and by me to Cllr Delyth McRae for needy people in the Abergele area.
For a change, the weather was good enough for us to be able to play our Annual Christmas Snow Ball social mixed on the 27th December, and thanks again to all who supported this event.
Future events for your diary are our Coffee Morning on Wednesday, 15th February 2012 from 10am to 12 noon, tickets £1; our Open Spring Fayre on Friday, 23rd March and my Mini-Outing to Betws-y-Coed on Friday, 30th March. We also have St Valentine's dinner on 11th February to look forward to which I hope you will support. Please come along and enjoy yourselves. My charity for this year is the Kidney Wales Foundation and thank you for your continued support for this worthy cause.
I look forward to a Happy Year, and Good Golfing to you all for the 2012 season.
Janet Large Lady Captain.
